I'm pretty sure they'll support ddr3, but I don't have a good guess as to if intel will release a new socket.

The 45nm ones? or the current one?

The current one costs $1000. the 45nm ones - well, they aren't out yet.

So what does the 65nm mean?

I believe that's basically the smallest width of the components that make up the CPU are. For example, 65nm process has transistors that are 65nm wide...I did a little research to back this up:
http://arstechnica.com/articles/paedia/cpu/moore.ars/2

They call it the smallest "feature" size that can be created.

65nanometers. A nanometer is 1 billionth of a meter. For processors, its the size of the transistors. So continually lowering the size lets them pack more onto the chip, resulting in more performance.

Also, I believe, the smaller the transistors are - the less voltage they require...lowering power usage and still cramming the same number of transistors into the same area without a large power consumption jump.

This also generally results in less heat. I hear the 65nm quad cores are real furnaces.

GLC, didn't intel make quad cores the same way they made their first dual cores, by putting (in this case) two C2D chips together, because i think thats why they run hot.

A Core 2 Duo is rated at around 65W,Kentsfield (Core 2 Quad) is rated for double that, 130W - that's the same as what old Intel Pentium D EE CPU's were.
