strange problem

hope this is the correct forum for this ?

i am using a Dell C600 plll-800 notebook with winxp/256 ram

when i play windows media player for about 1 hour, the sounds starts to distort, lose volume and finally totally disappear.....if i reload the site, windoiws med. player will not play--ie--it says cant find playlist???

I am using the Verizon wireless Broadband access manager softweare with their PCMCIA broadband access card. Signal is strong in my area.

suggestions!

This Verizon wireless broadband access program is new and I wonder if it has glitches (ie software..drivers etc) Also wonder if the pcmcia modem has glitches...

I completely reinstalled the software/pcmcia modemcard--same problem.

thanx.

Does rebooting make the problem go away?

Because its happening after such a long time i'd be tempted to say it was a temperature issue. Perhaps its overheating? do you get any other problems after using the system for an hour or so? Would be worth checking to make sure you arent overheating.

problem fixed by downloaqding updated version of wmp!

stiull cant understand why sound wld simply fade with useage time with older version--the notebook is running very warm--ie--bottom left 1/4 is hot to touch after 1 hour of operatiuon..suspect fan not working--my temp soulution= placed notebook on cold windowsill!--crude but works tx.........

WEll glad to hear you're sorted. I'm not entirely sure about your model but there are specific laptop cooling docks available for some. Basically its just a free standing fan unit (ive seen some usb conttrolled) You may want to check out to see if theres anything suitable as a more long term solution to the heat problem.
