Monitor response question

I need a monitor and have been interested in getting a cheapish monitor, i will be playing quite alot of games, problem is i dont know what is actualy classed as a good response rate so is say this any good it has a 8ms response. http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/s...tml?NOV-LCD17C

My understanding is that 10ms is a little slow, 8ms is stretching it, and 5ms is generally considered good. That said, if your eyes are not particularly sensitive, you probably won't notice any problems at all with 8ms. Also, beware quoted response times. They're not necessarily accurate, and they're not necessarily comparing the same things. The two big categories for response times are black-to-black and gray-to-gray. Typically, when you see really low times (2ms, for example) that will be a gray-to-gray time, whereas the same monitor might have a considerably longer (5 or 8 ms) black-to-black time. It's often hard to tell which response time you're seeing, unless you can find an independent review or the retailer is responsible enough to say.

I would suggest, if you can afford it, buying a monitor from a better brand, regardless of the numbers. You will most likely find that the actual display is better, whatever the specs seem to show. Brands that I've heard good things about for LCD monitors are ViewSonic, LG, and especially Samsung.

Oh right thanks for that i didnt realise, am i right in sayiing all CRT monitors have a much faster response rate then any LCD still and if so what is the response rate of a CRT?

CRTs are rated differently. They are rated by the refresh rate at a particular resolution.
