Question Are Monitors and Speakers prone to power surges?

We had a power outage and when it came back on, it took out my power supply. I RMAed it last week and still waiting for Antec to send me the replacement.

What I though was a surge protector built into the desk is apprently there just to provide extra outlets, but not protect a COMPUTER on a COMPUTER DESK. I found an extra surge protector in the basement, but I dont have enough outlets for everything.

Would I be alright plugging the monitor and speakers into the desk?

Thanks all--

That would be fine for the monitor/speakers.
Outlets built into a desk are generally not surge protectors/ if they are, low grade.

does your pc have a UPS attached to it. if not i would go that route which also has a side that is just a surge protector for your monitor and speakers if you so choose to plug them in there.

At the very least I would get one of these to plug your computer into. PSU, moniter, and speakers.

It is cheap and does the job. I have been using one since i built my computer and survied loads of power outages, blinks, and storms.
