questions about SMART for harddrives

When starting up on the boot screen of my comp it says that my hard drives are not SMART enabled. How do i go about enabling them? If I install speedfan, will it automatically enable it or will it not get any info about the hard drives.

Actually, if you're using an IDE channel run off a Jmicron controller then you can't use it. I can't use SMART for the drive I boot off of in my P5W DH deluxe because it uses the JMicron controller.
