DVD Writers not up to Speed

I just bought an MSI 975X motherboard with dual core.
The prob I'm having is that my DVD writer isn't up to writing at full speed of 16X.
I figured the problem is with bios support (none to date).
I'm running XP home and have installed SP 2, so I have all the drivers required.
I normally like Abit motherboards but thought I'd try something different.
Did I make a Bad choice here?

It likely isn't your motherboard - are you sure you are using 16x disks? This should have been in the forum for Drives - just for future reference. What brand is the DVD writer?

what software are you using for burning...
what speed is the dvd burning at...

I know the latest version of Nero6 has issues with speed... if thats what your using roll it back to a prior version...

Make sure the drive is running DMA in the device manager under the drives properties...

Your actual burning speed will not be 16X. A movie should take around 6 to 8 min. to burn when 16X is selected.
