Wireless Network Connection 18 and counting
My laptop is an IBM X31, Intel Centrino 1.4GHz, 512MB RAM, 25GB HD, WinXP Pro SP2.
I travel frequently and use an Edimax 7317UHg 802.11g Hi-Gain Wireless LAN USB Adapter instead of the internal adapter. The issue I have is that each time I setup again at any location, in Network Connections the Wireless Network Connection seems to gain another number. (It now says Wireless Network Connection 18) In Device Manager under Network Adapters, It lists (ZD1211)IEEE 802.11b+g USB Adapter #4, and if I select show hidden devices, it will show the original one plus #2 and #3. I am sure this number would be up to 18 as well, but I did delete all of the additional ones a while back in an attempt to stop this happening. The issue is not one that affects the performance as far as I am aware, except that I need to reenter access passwords for the wireless networks every time I change locations and a new number of the connection is added. I also noted that the same thing happens with my Creative USB WebCam. If anyone can advise an easy fix for this I would appreciate it, otherwise I will just have to continue to put up with the slight inconvenience. Thanks in advance. |

Not so new

It seems like you have some setting that creates a new network connection whenever you connect to a network instead of using your current connection.
