couples of questions about CPU Fan and voltage ...

So far , i think im doing well in my overclocking project ...

Intel E6700 ( 2.66Ghz @ 3.405Mhz ) ....

im wondering now if it is time to replace the Arctic cooling freezer 7 pro CPU fan for someting better ... im thinking about the Scythe Infinity since a lot of OC'er praise the performance of this CPU cooler ... from what i see on several forums ...what about you guys ?? i think i reached the limit of the actual CPU Fan ..

Idle : CPU 33 C , Core 1 : 52 C , Core 2 : 47 C , Mobo : 29 C
Heavy Load : CPU 47 C , Core 1 : 64 C , Core 2 : 57 C , Mobo : 44 C

you can see a picture here

maybe this fan is better .. but from what i see the Scythe has two additional heat pipe plus that little heat sink on the copper block ....

from now here's my voltages ..maybe a bit high but im in the testing/process of lowering them until i lose the system stability .. until now it work like a charm :

vcore : started at 1.40 V now at 1.367 in the BIOS but EVEREST report at 1.35 (? ! ¿ )
Memory : 2.2 V stock timing 5 5 5 12
MCH : 1.55 V
FSB :1.40 V
ICH : 1.05 V ( BIOS choice was AUTO , 1.05 V and 1.20 V )

PCI-e Locked at 100Mhz
PCI locked at 33.33 Mhz

any comments ? they are more than welcome ...good or bad ...

thx !!

Your temperatures are confusing to me because usually the total CPU temp is higher than the cores, but nonetheless the temps are okay, but the core temps are just a bit higher than I personally like.

Yeah, voltages sensors vary. I had mine at 1.35 in BIOS but it reported 1.312 or so. Your vCore isn't too terribly high, but you probably will not need to go very much higher at all.

Looks good.

Indeed .. since day one .. even during the 3 weeks running at stock speed 2.6Ghz the cores always run hotter that the CPU reading .. even when using intel speedstep feature the CPU was running at 23 C but the core at 33-36 ... very strange indeed .. TempCore report the same thing as Everest ..

Your temperature sensors are not accurate, then. No way is an e6700 idling 23c on a Freezer 7 Pro anyday.

My e6300 at stock runs 40c idle with it.

At least I see no way possible.

Well it may say that, but I am telling you often times sensors are highly inaccurate. Not that yours is, you may very well have a unique processor stepping.

Actually, CPU sensors are very accurate. The motherboard is to blame. There is not universal way of reading temperatures as motherboard manufacturers vary with thermoresistor readers and calibration. It is just too time consuming to calibrate motherboards to give an accurate readout. Therefore sensors should only be used to determine whether or not the processor is overheating, and to calculate temperature decreases or increases between one variable.

Your AC Freezer is fine. The Scythe Infinity is nice, but has very weak hold down brackets. My favorite for top of the line Coolers would be the Sunbeam Tuniq Tower or the Thermalright Ultra120.

Before I can give you further advice on voltages..what are your system specs?

hey thanks for you're input , i will do some research on both coolers ... my goal was to obtain a stable 3.4Ghz on air. Now that i have it , the next objective is to lower the temp even more...

For the voltages ... well i bumped back at 1.40v for Vcore in the BIOS ,But CPU-Z , EVEREST report it at 1.37v - 1.38v. I think the most of my instability was right here ..i think i will increase it by 0.02 increment if needed. After all , maybe it just needed more juice at 3.4 Ghz .... since it run 1.31 at stock speed ...

And guess what : For vMCH , vICH , vFSB are back at AUTO setting and even the memory ... i figured out that disabling Hyperpath 3 and any '' speed enhancements '' setting solved most of my overclocking issue after hours of testing ( Orthos , memtest etc ..)

For my system specs as requested . i think most of the info you need are in my sig in my first post .. i can give you more info about the RAM : Corsair XMS2 TWIN2X2048-6400 matched pair. The actual ratio is 1:1 now ... my bus speed is 340 ..

.

do you need more infos ?

Edit .. another print screen while testing
