Samsung DVD burner any good?

Hi folks. Quick question.

I'm building myself a computer very soon, and I'm going to put in two DVD burner combo drives. I'm considering Samsung drives.

I want to know what you guys think about their drives... I dont know anyone who uses em, and I've had a dissapointing experience with my current Pioneer... It takes like 30 seconds for it to recognize the disc and launch Autoplay.

The specs on it look good, but I just want a lil feedback from people with experience with Samsung drives.

Thanks.

Good question. In the past, Samsung optical drives have been less than reliable. It's possible the current versions may be decent. I've had decent luck with Lite-On and that's what I usually recommend. NEC has a good reputation.

Whatever brand you get, retail boxed drives are recommended to get the software - most OEM drives have no software.

Most of the members here will recommend Lite-On burners over most other brands. Samsung hasn't had the best reputation when it comes to drives (hard drives and optical drives) and most here will avoid them. I've been installing Lite-On burners in all the computers I've built since 2002 and haven't had any fail yet.

I avoid Samsung optical drives having bought a few of them a couple of years ago for various builds. A couple of them didn't work at all well, and the ones that did were rather noisy.

Course, newer ones may be better. But since then, I've always bought NEC drives, and they've been reliable and quiet.

ah, NEC was my second choice... samsung and NEC are less expensive than the rest, mind you, thats why I ask around to see if the price doesnt reflect the quality of product lol.

Naww price shouldn't affect quality at all. I say that because of my own experience. My 34 $ dvd burner i got from ncix.com quite a while back is still in top condition and its a NEC. It just depends how the drive is built and most of the time they fail because of what they've been through.(I mean like during shipping and stuff) Especially when ordering OEM parts This is why you have to trust the source your ordering from
