moving cpu to new mobo
hi,i am moving a amd 3000+ 939 from one board to a asus a8n5x,my question is do i have to seperate the cpu from the heatsink to reinstall on the new board,i have istalled one before new out of box but not from one board to another,thanks in advance for your help.

Yes, you should removed the heatsink from the CPU. A way of doing this is to run some CPU intensive program to heat up the old thermal paste then power off. Release the heatsink clamps and gentle twist the heatsink to break the thermal compound seal. The heat sink should lift up without pulling the CPU from it;s socket.

Thanks For Your Reply,i Had A Bad Mobo So I Couldntwarm The Cpu Up, And To Late I Already Pulled The Heatsink And Cpu Out Of The Socket I Cant See Any Bent Or Broken Pins It Looks Ok I Guess?, I Am Trying To Seperate The Cpu &heat Sink,any Help Would Be Apreciated.

Try aiming a hair dryer at the base of the heatsink to warm it up.

Hi, Ithank You Again For Your Time,how Much Thermal Compound Should I Use On The Cpu,i Read On One Thread The Size Of 2/3 Of A Grain Of Rice? Is This Right.
