Socket 939 or 754 which is better?

I might have to upgrade my PC. I am currently running a A7N8X-deluxe with a 3200 AMD CPU.
One or the other isn't working.
If I upgrade to AMD 64, what CPU is good and what should I be looking for in a motherboard. I use it for video editing and playing my racing games. I want to keep the price down as much as possible. I am not really interested in overclocking.

AMD has discontinued both though they're still out there if you really want one.
As of now it's all AM2.

Boy, I haven't been paying attention. It's been about 4 yrs. with my AMD 3200 and A7N8X. Is there any good reviews on motherboards for this chip (Sempron). Is the Sempron a good video editing CPU? Are Asus motherboards still good boards?

The best bet for video editing is a dual core processor and 2 gigs of ram (DDR 2 Memory is now the new standard).
Asus motherboards are still top of the line.
PCI-e video cards have replaced AGP .
The Sempron is AMDs bargain chip so if you just want a place holder while you saved for a more expensive processor it can do the job.

The Sempron is about the same as your 3200 CPU. If you do go the AM2 socket route, you will need to get different ram: DDR2 800 and probably a new PSU that is ATX 2.0.

So, you're saying is, what I have now is really getting outdated. I think I better figure out if my CPU is bad or if it's my motherboard. The video card I have works great and I really don't want to shell out more money for a video card and RAM.

The prices on the 754's and 939's are pretty reasonable.
If you check around,you'll see the prices for a replacement cpu(especially,the 3200) are pretty high and what may be available are pulls.
For the price of the cpu,you could get a new motherboard and cpu,with change to spare.
What symptoms is your current system showing?
I assume you want a motherboard that supports your current ram and agp video card,correct?

Well, I installed a new harddrive. I fired it up and went to BIOS setup to make sure it read the new harddrive. It did, so I turned it off, but then realized I forgot to change the boot sequence. When I turned it back on, I got nothing, not even a beep. The fans still worked and I could hear the harddrive turning, but nothing else.

I tried a different PSU, its not that. I tried a different video card, it wasn't that. I tried one stick of new RAM, it wasn't that. I'm down to checking the CPU and motherboard.

Oh yea, I tried that to. I even put in a new battery.

Alfie, yes I would like to use my video card and RAM.

pull the power cor...pull the atx connector...pull the battery and move the cmos jumper to the clear and leave it for 10minutes and retry..

Moved the CMOS jumper and left the battery out for about 15 min. Same thing, fans work, nothing else.

I assume youv'e tried it with everything else disconnected,leaving cpu and heatsink,memory and video card only.

Yea, I even took the motherboard out and placed it on an anti static bag.

NO! Do not place the motherboard on an antistatic bag - that will short it out.
