quick question regarding sata/ata

I have a quick question regarding the hard drive in my comptuer. Right now I'm running my comptuer with a SATA Seagate Harddive and recently purchased an external SATA enclosure; I have decided to take the SATA and put it into the enclosure to make an external hd. I have a couple of ATA Maxtor hard drives I picked up from Staples this past Black Friday.

Now my question, is it possible to connect the ATA as a slave while my SATA is installed with my operating system? I want to transfer my files from the SATA to the ATA. I tried it setting the jumpers on the ATA as cable select, but that didn't work it showed up in the setup screen as a primary ide whereas my SATA showed up as a third ide.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

That's fine, it doesn't matter what it shows up at, just set the correct drive first in the boot order.

Yes. "master" and "slave" have nothing to do with that.
