Sick of the double clicking
I am on my 4th intellimouse. Every one of them seem to have this thing about after about a year, they will start double clicking everything on a single click. I've done the "detect accidental double click" in I think it's powertoys or the intellimouse settings, but anyway, that does nothing. I"ve changed the double click speed, still nothing. Is there any program out there that will help me with this. I am sick of buying a new mouse every year, when there is nothing wrong with it than this. I would buy a dif brand, but I like the design of the Intellimouse, so I keep buying them. Thanks a lot.

I have the same problem with the Intellimouse. The switch action in them wear out. I get about a year and half before it starts getting flacky. The one I have now is just about due for replacement.

I have an Intellimouse on my other PC and it is about four years old. It still works fine. I have Logitech MX1000 Laser Mouse on my main PC and it is without a doubt the best mouse I have ever used. It has a three year warranty too.

I have to say the best mice I've used are the Logitech MX series I'm working with an MX 310 right now, and have been using it for about 3 years. The ntellimouse is almost the PC equivalent of the mighty mouse. The consensus is get something else.

I used a Logitech MouseMan first design for a couple years before switching to a Kensington PilotMouse Optical. The scroll wheel went flakey after 3 years so I contacted Kensington. Their service was excellent and I had a free replacement in a couple days. Nice 5 year warranty. I originally selected the Kensington after visiting several retail stores and taking several mice for a "drive". My hands are somewhat large and the PilotMouse was and is a great fit. It has soft rubber inserts on the top and flexible ribbed grips on the sides that make it very comfortable. My only complaint is battery life - it eats them quicker than any other mouse I've used. But then again, I use it a lot! Here's a link if you're interested.

What do you like about the Intellimouse? The design or feel of the mouse? If that's your problem, you could try and put the top casing and buttons on top of a different mouse. I have a HP mouse that came with my previous computer, and the top casing and buttons are on removable, with a screwdriver.

I too, am addicted to the Microsoft Intellimouse. I've just gotta use one or my life isn't right. Mine started double-clicking on the left button last summer. Finally had to perform open-mouse surgery and swap the left and right button microswitches. The manufacturer's data sheet says they're rated for 1 million cycles but that count probably doesn't include "contact bounces", only failures to switch a several milliamp load. The soldering skills required are beyond most people's ability, however. It's a shame the switches give out because the optical motion sensor will probably outlast my life.
I'll probably have to break down and order replacement switches. Not that it will be cheaper or easier than just buying a replacement off eBay, I'm just a stubborn SOB that wants to fix rather than replace. The data sheet for the switch is here: http://downloadcentre.omron-industri...036-E2-07C.pdf Digi-Key list the price of the switch as $2.88 US if they stocked them, which they don't: http://www.digikey.com/scripts/DkSea...481557&Site=US There are many types of switches in this particular family. Digi-key or Mouser may have another part number that would work. I'm too distracted right now to wade through the data sheet to find another similar model that would work. I'll do it this weekend and post if I come up with something. Could also do a web page with step-by-step photo directions on how to do the fix. |
