Small case big power supply

I have a micro atx case and i need abigger power supply does the power suplly have to be in the case or can i put it outside my computer

I've seen mods that have the power supply protruding out the back about 3/4 of an inch. On some sff cases the power supply also acts as the case cooler too. Which case do you have?

i have an hp pavillion 7955 so its ok if it petrudes out the back

Sure would think that an atx psu would fit unless it's a highly proprietary configuration. (There are others on this sight that are much more up to speed on servicing these main brand brands as they can have special requirements).

A standard ATX will work electrically and MAY fit in the case. Width and height is the same, but you may have a depth issue. To shove it part way in, you need plastic/metalworking tools to enlarge the cutout and you will need some kind of support bracket.
