Connecting Xbox 360 to your computer.

Is there anyway one could connect and play a xbox 360 on a computer that has XP. I know with vista you can, but I was just wondering if it was also possible with xp.

what do you mean "play it on the computer'" ? you mean stream media to it?

yes, I mean be able to play it on the xbox and watch it on your computer.

you mean use your computer monitor to play the xbox? You need a moniter with VGA input then buy the xbox 360 VGA cable and hook it up to the moniter

I bought the vga cable and I successfuly got it to work, but I am unable to get any sound. I have two speakers (Dell) that are connected to the onboard (mobo) sound. I tried plugging in the xbox audio directly into the speaker, but it didn't work. Any Help?

Do your speakers support RCA inputs or do they use a 3.5 mm Stereo jack plug? Is it the physical connection that is the problem or is there is no signal through the cable?

I believe it's physical connection that is the problem. The speakers use a 3.5 mm Stereo jack plug and that is connected to the computer. Here is a pic of what my speakers look like: http://www.goetc.net/shop/images/dell%20speakers.jpg

Ok so you have the VGA running how are the rca jacks connected to the computer (if they are)? If they aren't connected to the computer than what method are you using to connect them to the stereo jack plug?

Here is how the sound om my computer is set up. The speakers are plugged into the one that says front spkrs. There are five other places on the mobo to put jacks into, since my mobo came with onboard surrond sound.

Ok but are the rca (white and red) jacks that are attached to the VGA cable being used? You need to get a Rca to Stereo mini plug adapter to do this. ex. This

Yes I tried plugining them into the mobo, it didn't work. I then tried pluging them directly into the speakers and it didn't work. The VGA did come with a plug adapter, and I used this to try and plug the rca jacks into the mobo. This is what I bought: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1126591946321

Those jacks will not connect to your speakers directly and they wont connect to your motherboard either. What you need is a Male RCA to Stereo mini Adapter which someone might be able to direct you to where you can get one as I have no Clue

ok thanks for the help everyone. Is there any possible way to have bot the computer and the xbox connected to the speakers at the same time (so I don't have to keep on switching the connections)?

you can use a kvm switch like belkin's flip usb kvm switch. I used it on my 360 which was hooked up to my computer. Make sure to turn hibernation off on your computer or else the screen will not switch back after a certain amount of time.

How would the xbox connect to the kvm switch? Do you just plug the vga cable into it? Also would a kvm switch allow me to connect the speakers to both the computer and the xbox at the same time? Thanks.

Edit: One last question, would any software alternatives (preferably free) work rather than using a kvm switch, since I already have a lot of cables and wires and I don't really want anymore.

If that X-box cable came wiith an adapter that plugs into the 2 RCA jacks and is a mini-stereo jack on the other end, should be able to plug it into the line-in jack on the mobo. May need to go into the audio controls and un-mute line in and change volume.

As I looked at the page I notices that they were plugging it into the mobo. I know that this site isn't for a 360 but I was wondering if I could do this with the 360?

If your talking about the black thing in the guys hand then that's whats needed to connect the Xbox cable to the PC.

After it's connected do I leave the computer on in order to be able to hear the sound?

Actually that is a Stereo Male RCA to Stereo Mini Plug adapter. This is what you will need to connect you xbox 360's audio output to your speakers audio input.

As far as I know you wont find anything to connect to different audio sources to a stereo mini jack and be able to switch them. You could Purchase audio video selector a Stereo mini to RCA male cable which are widely available at any radioshack etc. and the adapter to connect the output for the switch to your speakers.

No the computer has nothing to do with the xbox 360. You are just switching the input for the moniter between the PC and the Xbox.

I have a 360 and i would like to play on my monitor. i have a 5.1 speaker set with the xbox logo

(regular xbox) and it works with all different stuff but my question is, if i have the speakers

plugged into my xbox and its all turned on and all thsoe goodies will the picture come through my

monitor and the soudn through those speakers?

Yes. The xbox just ouputs video out the video port, and sound out the sound. What's on the other end is totally up to you. You can directly hook up the monitor, or use the kvm to enable you to use the same monitor for your computer and xbox without having to phycially switch the cables all the time. There are some KVMs that will also switch standard stereo sound, but I do not believe there are any that will switch surround sound, so just hook up the speakers directly.

I was able to connect the kvm switch and hook up the sound. Thanks evry 1. Just to let you know though that you can connect the two rca jacks (w/adapter) to the mobo, and it will work as long as the computer is on.
