Exclamation 2 hards with 2 OS

hey im wondering how i can install to seperate OS on 2 seperate hard drive. for example im thinking of installing an old ide 20gb hard drive to my current desktop which already has a 160 gb sata hard drive with vista on it.

ive seen people with setups where at boot up they can choose wat OS to run. that is wat im going for but without having the 2 OS on the same hard drive. i want them on 2 seperate hard drives so i can sorta play around with linux and still keep all my windows vista stuff.

also im just wondering if having one sata and one ide will conflict with anything current setup.

thanks for all ur info.

I have computer set up with one SATA and one IDE drive. The only problem I have encountered is that every once in a while it will try to boot from the IDE drive. I go into BIOS and find that it has placed the IDE drive as the first boot device. I tell it to ignore the IDE and boot from the SATA, save changes and exit. It will work great for a few weeks and then repeat the error.

Maybe both of us can find an answer in this thread...

If the ide drive is the only one on its cable, put it as master. Otherwise, I would slave it on the second connector, after your CD drive. When you go to install linux, just tell it to use that drive. Should be /dev/hdb; make sure before you format and install that the drive you're using is the correct size; wouldn't want to accidentally wipe anything. Grub will run fine whatever drive it's on.
