Optical drives do not need drivers. Whereabouts are you being told otherwise?

i went to device manager then clicked on the cd/dvd rom drives then the drive that has the yellow "!" on it and then right click then properties and under device stats it says

Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)

Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device.

Try this: right click on the ! icon and UNINSTALL the cd drive. Then reboot, and windows will see it as "new hardware" and should configure it with the proper drivers.
