Why are AM2 processors cheaper than Socket 939
Hey all,
I've had my 3200+ Venice for over a year now and it has served me well but it's time to uprade. I don't want or need to spend the dough on a whole new system, if I did that I'd go C2D but I need something for my setup, socket 939. Does anyone know why the 4200+ (retail version) for socket AM2 is just over a hundred dollars and the 939 version (OEM) is 60% more than that? I can't figure it out, maybe the socket 939's will drop drastically soon? What do you guys think? Thanks Steve |

Since 939 socket CPUs have been discontinued, there is a limited supply and still a demand for the 939s.

Since they're disappearing, get a dual core model of some kind; this is likely to be the last CPU upgrade your 939 system will get.

There is still a demand for the 939,s . I upped my 3800 for a 4800 x2, took me a while to find one . I like the 939 format , and i like the asus a8n32 board . so i didnt want to go down the am2 road . My system will serve me well for a while yet. Have a look on ebay , some good deals on there.

great point regans cortina, i like my current set up very much, knock on wood I've had very little system errors...all the compusa's on long island are closing so I saved some dough on a nice new zalman heasink/fan. Adding a 4200+ will give me a real nice boost over my single core 3200+ which I already consider pretty fast. thanks
