WD Raptor Worth It?
I'm wondering if it's worth it to buy a 150gb WD Raptor? My main reasons for concerns are that for a $100 less I could get a drive twice the size and if I want to buy this hard drive I'd have to wait another month to buy the computer/parts it will be used in. Right now I have a 250 gb seagate IDE drive that I'm using on my current computer and I'll use this as a data drive in my next computer. Motherboard will be a P5B Deluxe, I'll probably run Xp until Vista's issues have been worked out and eventually do a dual-boot mode.

Those that have raptors say "yes, it is worth it". Those that do not say either "no, it's not worth it" or " yes, but I can't afford one".
I say, if you absolute need the extra performance, go for it. But personally if building a new system, I'd go for a Seagate 320GB perpendicular storage drive. It's a personal choice to make. I like to think of it this way - one can always get a raptor in the future should the need or want arise, but if you buy one and regret it - you can either sell/trade it, or you're stuck with it. In my opinion, the potential regret over buying one and not wanting it anymore is greater than the potential regret of not buying one and then saving up to buy it in the future.

well, it depends on what your using it for i would think. im buying my 150gb 10krpm raptor drive for the soul purpose of gaming. in that sense, a 10krpm drive would have an advantage over the standard 7800. perhaps not a huge difference, but still a difference. and since iv already invested 450+ in just the case, psu and sound card alone, i figuired what the hell. lets go for it.

The benchmark difference between a Raptor and a Seagate 7200.10 is minimal.
