SATA Drive not recognized in BIOS

I'm trying to install a 300Gb SATA Drive on an ASUS P4PE motherboard. Presently, there are 2 IDE drives on IDE 1 and an optical drive on IDE 2. This board uses the Promise FastTrack 376 (tm) Controller for RAID and SATA. I did not install the drivers at the time of Windows XP Pro SP2 installation, but soon after all upgrades were completed. I have the drive attached to SATA1 and powered by a 4 pin connector. I can feel the drive spinning.
The RAID/SATA controller is enabled in the BIOS. The BIOS does not show the drive on bootup.
Device Manager shows the SATA controller present under SCSI and RAID Controllers as described on the installation disc to verify the drivers are installed correctly. Device Manager also shows a SCSI Disc Drive under Disk Drives. My Computer does not show it, neither does Disk Management. The Data Lifeguard Tools on the WD CD will show a SCSI Disc Drive of 0Kb capacity.
I'm out of ideas on what else to try. Is my problem that I did not install the drivers with the initial Windows XP installation? Does anybody have any experience with this stuff?

That would have to be one of the earlier SATA boards.

Why isn't my SATA drive being recognized?

If you're going to install your operating system on this drive, you'll have to install the SATA drivers if your motherboard doesn't have native SATA support. If you're installing this as an additional drive, you'll need to install the SATA drivers, then physically install the drive.

Below are it's chipsets :

It sounds like you got the install out of order.

Thanks, Pam. I was afraid that would be the answer but was misled by the fact they showed up in Device Manager. I'll reinstall with drivers on hand. Happy Easter!
