Tuniq Tower and a Yate Loon
I have a Tuniq Tower on my CPU to keep things cool but I was wondering, would I get better results (and quieter) by replacing the stock fan with one of the faster spinning Yate Loon fans? I ask this because Tuniq insists that their 9 blade design is best, even though I'm sure it's just marketing. I'm thinking of putting in one of the D12S-12. I cant seem to find the CFM or dBa ratings for the Tower anywhere so I was wondering if the would be worth doing. I was also thinking of using one of these Noctua fans but I no one has them in stock. http://www.xoxide.com/noctua-nf-s12-fan.html

All things being equal a faster fan will make more noise.

Are you trying to fix or improve on a heating problem? Or just trying to reduce fan noise? Here's the spec's on the Tuniq Tower. Check the graphs at the bottom.
http://www.tuniq.com.tw/Cooler%20Info/Tower-120.htm They show the dBa at 1000 and 2000 rpm but no cfm ratings. Makes it kinda hard to determine if a replacement would move an equivalent amount of air at lower dBa. That Noctua has some nice quiet specs but without cfm ratings to compare, we're shooting in the dark.

Well as far as improve it performace or reduce noise, I guess a litte of both but mainly reduce noise. As long as I can reduce the noise and NOT LOSE performance I'll be happy. If i happen to get a performace gain out of it then bonus. I dont know maybe I'll just order a fan, slap it on and see what happens. Im sure I can find a use for a the fan if its not an improvement. |

I would first try the tuniq's stock fan. They are supposed to be pretty good and are designed just for that heatsink.
