qx6700 VS x6800 -
OK, I'm in the process of building an ultimate rig for gaming and running my business. I will be multi-tasking on a regular basis but my main concern is power.
I understand that the x6800 is clocked at 2.93GHz and is currently deemed the fastest processor in the world. My question is- if I were to overclock the qx6700 to 2.93GHz, wouldn't it in theory be the same speed as the x6800, but with better multi-tasking performance? Thanks for any comments. |

Are the apps you will be using multi-threaded?

We'll just my opinion, but if I was out to build myself a top of the line quad core based machine, I would either wait until Q3 of this year when the prices are slashed for the Q-series. OR wait until late this year (perhaps '08) for intel's new and overhauled quad cores.
But what and when you buy is totally up to you. If you have the extra money *now* then go for the Q6600 instead. The little difference in clock speed will be unnoticeable in real life situations. Or if you go the dual core route. Same principle applys here. Skip the X6800 and go for the E6700. You will NEVER get bang/buck when you go to the extreme series. |
