RAM swap question...?

Ok here we go. I just recently bought two laptops...One for myself (Toshiba as135-2246) and a Dell 1501 for my son's upcomming H.S. gradution. Both have ms vista installed. Ecame with 512 mb ram. The Toshi came with dd2 pc4200, the Dell came with ddr2 pc5300. Can I safely mix both 512 mb stick in my Toshi and buy one stick of 1 gb for the Dell? There seem to be some decent deals on ram. Thanks. Any recomendations would be appreciated.

You may not be able to swap the sticks of memory around. Name brand computers tend to use proprietary RAM for their computers (they tend to be just different enough so that you can't use generic RAM in the systems or RAM from other laptop makers).

Crickey Mr Cricket:

That seems all jacked up. So how do you buy RAM for laptop...? I mean if you have say 512 mb, and want to upgrade, do you add to, or just remove what came with it and buy what you need...? Anyway, I appreciate the info. I still might do it this way, worse case scenero is that it wont work and I'll have to buy (2) 1 gb sticks vie one.

It cannot hurt to try. If it does not work, buy notebook ram from www.crucial.com You can use the configurator to find RAM that is guaranteed to work with your system.
