How to replace a CDROM with a CDRW in a "BookPC" NOT a tower case
Hi
Just to recap my pc is a "BookPC" meaning that the mobo is crowded, and the CDROM and floppy sit on a platform above the hard drive and ram slots. I've been thinking of replacing my CDROM with an external CDRW, but then thought about getting an internal one. I've found one: it's a Lite-on (same as my current CDROM)and internally fitted. The only snag is I don't know what to do or how to replace it ![]() I've looked for tutorials, and although I have found one, it seems to talk in terms of a tower case, and I find it impossible to recognise what it talks about (my case is currently off). I'm beginning to see the drawbacks of a BookPC but now I don't care - I just would appreciate some advice on how to replace a CDROM with a CDRW in a BookPC. I have no experience in using a tower case, so you will loose me ![]() If anyone has experience with fitting hardware in a bookpc case, I'd appreciate it timmo |

I don't know what you mean by book pc, unless you are referring to a laptop.
I've replaced the cdrom in both tower and desktop models and the procedure is the same. I would assume it would also be similar for laptops. You just have to be a litttle more careful with a laptop since everthing is compressed, furthermore you would probably have to use the manufacturer replacement part for a laptop. Errr...no it ISN'T a laptop - I would have said so if it was
It's a desktop pc.The case is crowded as I said, with the CDROM, floppy, sitting over the hard drive and ram slots. Is the procedure for replacing/removing a CDRW the SAME as replacing/removing a CDROM? My current CDROM is the primary IDE slave, thats all I know. timmo |

Basically, just look it over good and take out the screws or take off the pieces that are necessary to get it out. Jumper the new drive just like the one you're replacing and re-do your steps to install it. You'll need no special software. It'll fire right up.
Good luck,
