HD seems blocked to wrong size after resize!!(½ solved)
Bonjour to all tech here! 2 days ago, I changed HDs on my pc and before doing that, I used Partition Magic 8 to resize my old Fujitsu 10.2Gb hd; the HD was originally partitionned in 3 parts (3 X3.2) I first deleted the last two partitions and then I resized the first partition to its full capacity. I don't know what I did wrong when clicking OK but the size of the HD was now of 1,9Gb!!! I then tried a lot of tweakers (Disk Manager from many companies, etc...) but the HD seems blocked to 1,9Gb. Do you have an idea of what went wrong and how can I get it back to its full capacity?? I did the same process with another HD (WD-40Gb Caviar) that was my C/F/G and it went just fine. The C was "maxed" to its full capacity without any bug. Merci for your time, "OO" ps: Last Update: I found a little program (HDAT2) and once done, the HD returned to its full capacity. Program can be get at => http://www.hdat2.com/ Last edited by "OO"; 04-30-2007 at 03:22 PM. Reason: done! |

After installing the HD to the new ATX tower and system, Windows XP saw it as 1.9GB again so.... it seems to be a matter of jumper setting because when "SLAVE", it showed 10.2Gb but when back to MASTER, its 1.9GB!!
Anybody with a hint of how to return it back to 10.2Gb?? ![]() Merci! "OO" ps: I am still working on it..... Bizarre ...bizarre..... Last edited by "OO"; 04-30-2007 at 03:25 PM. |

What kind of IDE cable are you using? A 40 wire or 80 wire? If you're using a 80 wire IDE cable the jumper on the drives should be set to CS (cable select) and connector placement determines if the drive is master or slave. End connector is master and middle connector is slave.

You may be setting the jumper to the Capacity Limit position instead of Master. It's a common problem on some hdd's because the orientation of the jumper diagram is upside down.

In fact, after many tries, I installed Partition Magic on the new pc and the first partition on my HD was marked FAT, even though I had partitioned it few times in FAT32 and even NTFS; I deleted the two other partitions within a series of "convert/delete/reconvert" etc. I had changed the jumpers to CSEL because even in slave mode it was impossible to do anything with the HD.
At one point the "C" appeared in FAT32 and the free space was available for a resize to the maximum size of the HD (10.2gb)!!! Search me why?? Search me how!! Voilą! "OO" Last edited by "OO"; 05-02-2007 at 12:23 PM. |
