Use Seagate SATA 3.0 hd on 1.5 mobo?

Is this hd backwards compatible to the older 1.5 standard?

Yes, all SATA II drives are backwards compatible for older SATA I motherboards.

It will just run at the 1.5 speed.

It's unlikely you'd notice the speed difference between the two anyway - those figures are just for 'burst rate' - sustained transfer gets nowhere near that.
