Did I order the wrong DVD player???
Ok, I order a few things yesterday from Newegg, and received them today. It turns out I ordered a Liteon DVD-Rom that is IDE and not SATA. Am I better off returning it for a SATA version???
If I remember correctly, Newegg does not have a retail version of a Liteon DVD that is SATA, so can someone reccommend another model??? |

You probably wouldn't notice the difference between the two performance wise.
But... if you really want to return the ATA drive for a SATA one... here it is one that is RETAIL that I would recommend: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827135143 If you don't mind getting the OEM version... then go with the Lite-On. |

Well, here are the other parts in my build. Am I correct that IDE drives will not work with all motherboards??? Since it should not hamper performance, I thought of keeping it, but for looks, it would be nice to have the SATA drive.
I never returned anything to Newegg. Since it was not very costly, I may lose in the end paying to ship it back, restocking fees, etc. Decisions, decisions... You should return it if you plan on using it as your optical drive with the P5B motherboard. The IDE chipset on that board just isn't all that stable.
Here's a lite on sata retail drive on newegg: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827106046 *EDIT* Contact newegg. If you're returning in exchange for another product, they may cancel the restocking fee.

spydaman, if you were talking about hds i would say yes but in my personal experience i don't see that big a difference with ide vs. sata drives. i'm sorry i can't help you with the rest of your question because i still like to use ide optical drives but these people here should be able to point you in the right direction.

Ah. Well, in that case you're right, there's nothing from lite on that fits the bill. Sorry, wasn't paying enough attention

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thats all I have to say about Newegg. I just called them and asked if I would still be charged the restocking fee if I exchanged the item for another. I almost fainted with what they told me... He said he will credit the amount back to my card, and I can use that DVD drive for target practice, yard sale, whatever I want...no need to return it... WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Well, now I get to pick the CORRECT SATA version that I need, and yes, I want to replace the dvd-rom not the burner. |
