Missing files

I installed a new HDD in a new build and I am using the old HDD as a secondary. I had files on my desktop that I desperately need. How would I go about retrieving those files? I already tried going into the documents and settings foler but no dice.

Have you found the correct desktop folder on that old harddrive and are you just being denied access to the files in there? If so then you have to right click the folder, and click on sharing and security and go in and take ownership of that folder so you can access those files. Use windows help if necessary and "taking ownership of folders" as your topic.

Is the new system XP pro or home, and what was on the old HD, pro or home version?? Did you do what I suggested?? Safe mode won't help you have to right click and go into sharing and security and take ownershp. Search windows help for take ownership if you having trouble.
