question about sata drive

I got a real quick question,

I plan on moving everything I need from my existing 250GB to my 400GB sata drive that I have formatted and connected via a Sata cable.

my question is:

"When I erase everything and reinstall windows XP on the 250GB drive, will be 400GB retain all the information saved, and load up along with the XP... or will there be conflict with the 400GB and the 'new' XP reinstall. I'm basically worried that.. reinstalling XP will conflict with the 400GB formatted with the previous windows xp... will there be?

probably a stupid question, but yeah.. thanks in advance for the reply!

Instead of moving any information use the disk cloning utility included with the new drive and clone the old to the new. If you copy anything to the new hard drive from the old and then install xp some or all of it may be overwritten. Just use the utility and then unplug the old drive and place the new one in the sata 1 position on the mobo. One it initializes as the sytem drive you can shut down and connect the old one back up on a remaining sata port and re-format it for storage. HTH

Yes.

There shouldn't be. You may want to disconnect the 400GB SATA HDD while you're reinstalling WinXP on the 250GB HDD though.

No, there shouldn't be any conflict.

There is more than one way to interpret your question. The way I am reading it is if you just simply copy everything over to the 400 GB drive and then do a fresh install on the 250 then Yes you'll have a problem. The data that's on the 400 GB drive will be safe, but none the programs will be installed on the fresh install on the other drive.
