ok so i got issues again.
here's what i got p4 prescott 3.0GHz 1GB RAM ASUS p4p800se mobo X800GTO I woke up sunday morn and no power at all so new powers supply. 350W Antec Lights come on drives whirl but no post. I get 1 long 6 short beeps. I took the video card out and i get the same 1 long 6 short beeps (hmm Im suspicious) the i took out 1 stick of my ram and video card and same 1 long 6 short then took out all ram and video card different beep I think continuous long beeps or something I suspect the video card can anyone see any different? opinions welcome |

Have you tried clearing the CMOS via the jumpers on the motherboard of pulling out the CMOS battery for about 5 to 10 minutes?
What was the brand and model of the original power supply? |

I check BIOS Central originally but they do not have the 1 long and 6 short beep code.

i pulled out the battery already and no change. The power supply that died was CSI i think some no name peice of crap it smelled from day one and made all kinds of strange noises. It was on;y a month old and local shop won't stand behind thier products so i got screwed. So what BIOS does ASUS p4p800se have I don't have my manual available its packed up in storage.( i am in the process of moving)

What I'm thinking is maybe the PSU killed some other component when it died.

Just a basic question that we've all stumbled on. Did you plug in the square 4 pin connector by the cpu when you installed the new psu?

When you had the CSI power supply hooked up did you run your computer 24/7? Or did the computer just refuse to power up that morning?

it ran pretty much 24/7 I had left it on after some serious gaming Saturday night and when i woke up Sunday it was off. I thought my wife had turned it off but she hadn't touched it. So i pushed the power button at that point and nothing happened

ok verified 4 pin plug is in and secure
took out battery and made sure unplugged and capacitors dumped from pushing power button while unplugged and no change. |

If the CSI is a poor quality brand it's possible it doesn't have over-voltage protection, so when it died it may have sent a big surge to your computer and fried some components in there. Since it's not working with a new power supply there's a chance you got some dead parts in there now.

Yep... you will need to swap the parts from the original build into another working compatible system one at a time to confirm which parts are working and which parts are dead.

ok bought a new video card last night and that didn't fix it. I guess either ram or mobo or processor agghhhh

Test the memory in another compatible machine. If they work... then I would suspect a dead motherboard.

wont it be better if u bring it to a PC repair shop to ask them diagnose it for u instead of buying parts to try out if u don't have spare parts?

Before you buy anything else, just hook up the Antec PSU to the motherboard and don't install anything into the motherboard except the CPU and heatsink and the PC case speaker so you can hear any beeps. Power on the motherboard by touching the PWR ON pins of the front panel header (where the power button was connected to). You should hear lots of BIOS beeps from the speaker indicating no RAM or video card. If you do hear beeps then the motherboard and CPU may be okay. If you don't hear anything from the speaker then it's a good possibility that the motherboard got fried.
