Question about SATA 1.5 and 3.0
I have a question about SATA HDD's that are listed as SATA 1.5 and 3.0 . Are the drives advertised using SATA 1.5 able to be adjusted to 3.0 or do you have to buy the drive already made to use SATA 3.0?

SATA 1.5 drives are just that. You can't make them run at SATA 3.0 speeds.
SATA 3.0 can be slowed down to SATA 1.5 speeds though. But the difference between the two are not even noticable in real life use. |

yes...you hdd is not going to put out 1.5gb/s let alone 3gb/s so it really won't matter all that much.

Out of curiosity, whats a good "guesstimate" before a HDD might be capable of using up to 3 gb/s?

The key is that all hard drive speeds, be it ATA100 or SATA 1.5/3.0 are theoretical burst speeds. That is the fastest that the spec can handle, but whubbard's right, they never meet that speed over a long time. Check out some hard drive reviews, you usually see average read speeds around 60-80MBs, maybe a bit more depending on the drive.

You can do that no problem, but it won't go any faster then 150.
