Painting LCD Screen

Hey guys!

I have a 15" white LCD screen that I would like to be black. I figured painting would be the easiest way to accomplish this. Is it a good idea to paint an LCD screen? I know I would have to cover the screen and any vent holes and connectors. Whould spray paint be the best bet? Has any one done this before, if so, how did it turn out?

Thanks for the help!

Disclaimer: I have never Painted an LCD Screen!!!

I try an build/paint models whenever iam off work and sometimes masking is a real pain. Me personaly Id be afraid to try it on a monitor but Im sure theres someone or a tutorial online that someone has done Somebody has have to a tried it or did it. You got an old monitor to do a trial run on get some practice see what works and don't work? Not sure how much you paid for your monitor? Also an airbrush if you can get ahold of a decent one will also give you more control over your paint application. Just make sure you research this more before doing it and Im sure someone with more expierence on modding could advise you or point you in the right direction.

Just my thoughts not much sorry.

If you do it you might want to look at vinyl dye instead of paint. You can get it at AutoZone or other auto parts and body supply stores.

I was thinking maybe I could remove everything from the case. If this possible/a good idea? If I could do that, it would be much easier.

Thanks!

I dont know quite what you will find in there but that would be the way to do it. Even with masking tape a mishap could make the monitor unusable. I dont know what vinyl dye might do to the tape. If it soaks through that could be a problem. Even with regular paints some spray might get through. HTH. Some one here should be able to tell you what you may encounter in that lcd frame.

personally i would mask off the screan and spray bomb the rest , i doubt spray paint will hurt anything inside of your lcd screen , i use it to coat elecrtronic parts ocasionally that like to corode , so i really don't see it hurting anything , just make sure you let it dry before plugging it in .

or take it apart and spray bomb it .

dye would also work . i have never seen black dye but i use blue layout die all the time and it does not come off .

Well, I was able to get the screen out of the casing. There were like 4 screws to get everything out, so it was no big deal. I think I will just get some spray paint and paint the plastics and then put it back together. Should be an easy job.

Thanks again for the help.

Unless you back it on just hope the head from the monitor doesn't cause you any problems..

You can disassemble the whole lcd if you have the skills on DIY's... BTW if you are going to paint it i suggest to take the plastics to a Professional body shop where they could prep. the surface... and finally spray the paint.

I agree - disassembly is a good idea.

I hope you take some before & after pics!

All right, everything is painted and put back together, and it looks great. I just used Rust-Oleum Painter's touch black flat spray paint. It worked very well.

Here are some images. Enjoy.

Thanks again for the help!
