Speeding up my system

Hey guys
I'm running an Athalon 1ghz w/ Asus KT133 Apollo 266fsb. I've filled in the L1 bridges, overclocked it in the BIOS, yadda yadda. I also have 256mb PC133 RAM, Geforce2 MX 400 64mb, 30.6GB hard drive.

Currently, I'm getting good frame rates and speed in my apps and games, but i'm looking to do more. I'm planning to overclock my GPU, so that should speed it up a bit. I'm also running win98se, so if there is anything i can tweak thru there, let me know

SO that brings us to the question: Is there anything else I can do to put more Pep into the Puppy?

well...are you asking, how do you o/c the gpu???...or just get a boost from your whole system via o/c'ing...if your are talking about speeding the whole thing up, then raise the fsb....that way, the system is speeding up, not jus the cpu.hth

Yeah, i'm asking how to boost the whole thing. I've already boosted the FSB, so that's covered. Is there anything else?

sorry, didn't mention what the CPU tweak was at. It's a 1ghz Athalon Thunderbird running at 133x7.5 with "default" voltage. I'm not sure what that is, but i think it should be fine. If anyone thinks that i can boost any part of this up, let me know.

A bit late on this post but anyway, I running an Athlon 1.1ghz at 1266.
You stated that you have bumped your FSB why not the multiplyer? If ya
have the ability to. Try a 8.5x133 with 165-170 core to make it 1130.
Default voltage probably won,t get a post.It has been my limited experience
that anything under 100 on the clock will not be noticeable to the eye.
Temp becomes an issue with the bigger core voltage, mine has setteled on about
45-50 under load.It is the arse end of winter here so who knows what summer
will bring.?
Pot.........

Your running the cpu at default settings.
7.5x133=997mhz.
If the L1 bridges are filled,as stated, try moving the multiplier up.
The overclocking of a cpu is pushing it past it's stated rating.
This is accomplishe by increasing busspeed and multiplier.
The best bet is to try a gentle overclock, set the multiplier to 8 8x133=1064.
Leave the voltage as is and see if it flies.
This will tell you if the L1 bridges are unlocked, and the cpu can be overclocked further,
Move the voltage to 1.80 voltage and try the already stated overclock of 133x8.5.=1130.
Flying?
Try 9 x133=1197.
Flies? Doesn't,increase voltage to 1.85.
Retry, flies, try the next option in multiplier or fsb or a combination of the 2.
The 1.85 voltage setting is probably the highest on your board,so try different combos of multiplier and fsb.
It's important to monitor temps as overclocking makes your cpu run hotter, temps above 55c may be too high.
Temps should be between 34-45c to assure stability.
If the system becomes buggy or errors appear, downclock the settings, the concept is to get the highest setting with complete stability.

Hey guys!
I have it running @ 8.0 x 133 with core voltage 175. I don't wanna step the voltage up, but do you think i can move it to 8.5x133? or would it not post?

Also, does anyone use Coolbits to tweak their Geforce? cause i'm trying, but i can't get it to show up in display props. They said to transer the Nvcpll.dll and NVqtwk.dll to the windows/system to do it, but that didn't work at all. I am using 21.41 Det3, and i transfered in Det3 6.53 cause that's what they used to twak at the tutorial i went to. Does anyone know how to fix this? Do i just need to downgrade my Driver?

Tbirds can handle up to 2.2v, the extra juice aids in overclocking.
The default voltage is 1.7-1.75v so we see the 1.85 is not a gross increase, but rather a tweak.
The only way to see if it will go higher is to try,if it doesn't post or fails in Windows, reset to previous setting or up the voltage a bit and try again.
As far as overclocking your video card, why not try power strip?

Yes,do a search and you should find it,it works with about all video cards and is pretty easy to use.
Here,I found it for you, scroll down and you'll see the downloads, check it out,if you like it,buy it.

ok, kool, i got it and o/ced the vidcard.

It's a geforce2mx400 64mb from Visiontek. Although not the fastest MX card on the market, it was a good buy. It comes stock 175mhzGPU/168ram frequencies. I've got it at 214/182 w/o corruption. Howver, while the system is totally stable,i did notice the fact that in Max Payne and only max payne, the walls sometimes have small white dots.
I wanted to say that i was o/cing it too much, so i brought it down from what i had it at when i noticed that (214/187), and it reduced. Funny thing tho, it only appears on the walls. None of the other polygon structures have this, and it doesn't happen in any other game. For instance, UT, Quake3 or Giants Citizen Kabuto, it doesn't have this problem--only in Max Payne. I'm now willing to bet that its just some graphical errors that seem to be heightened by the o/cing.

I'm gonna let it sit at what it is right now, 214/182, but i think that i can go higher on the GPU. Ah well, them's the brakes....

PS..
I have plenty of cooling, no need to worry about that. 2 exhaust 80mm, 2 intake 80mm, and a slot fan for the vidcard.
