DVD and CD Drive reading and use problem
My Disk drives. And by that i mean the cd drive and dvd drive on my computer. Dont work very well at all. It seems almost like pot luck on whether they will read the disk i put in.
The problem: Every time i put in a disk i have to restart the computer with the disk already in the drive for it to work, and as i said very unpredictable. Sometimes even that doesnt work. I dont know what to do and really need a solution. Has this happened to anyone before? Just if this is any help these are my drives. DVD: LITE-ON DVDRW SHW-1635S CD: LITE-On 483S 48x MAX oh and someone suggested installing more updated drivers. I pressume this is just download and then like any other thing press and exe or something. |

What kind of computer is this? Home built or name brand?
What are the complete system specs for this computer? List the parts by brand and model including the operating system and the power supply. What have you tried to fix this problem? Have you opened the case to be sure all the power connections are secure? Have you tried a different IDE cable yet? Cricket

Perhaps "Auto Play" has been disabled for the optical drives?

name brand old dell had an upgrade with the dvd drive in question some extra ram and another hard drive.
When i go to my drives properties and select the autoplay tab the option i have selected is the 'prompt me to choose an option.' does this give you any more specifics needed to solve the problem? Last edited by yoshiserry; 07-15-2007 at 02:58 AM. |

Could be that the drives just need a cleaning disk running through to clean the laser.
Thats the first thing I'd try. Also if you have an NVIDA chipset the IDE drivers could be at fault, I had to revert to generic M$ to get both my DVD burners running correctly. (both are IDE). Deuce

If it's an old Dell it's probably an Intel chipset. What exact MODEL Dell? If you are using the IDE cables that came with the computer, the drives should all be jumpered to CS (cable select), not master/slave. What version of Windows?

Any resolution to this problem? It is amazing but I have the exact same problem that you describe here.
