Dual Monitors

I plan on building my own PC. I know that with Mac's it is possible to run dual monitors. Is it possible to do With a PC. If it is what kind of video card would you recommend.

Thanks

Yes, with Win98/ME and I do believe Win2000/XP it is possible to run up to 8 monitors. You can do it with separate video cards or with a multi capable card. The last one that I set up was with the ATI Radeon VE dual head and it worked quite nicely, but then again, I am somewhat biased towards ATI cards.

The other big manufacturer, nVidia, included 2-(analog)-monitor-support in their GeForce 2 MX series.

Of course, then there's this baby: Jeronimo Pro

Just ordered one for my studio setup -- and two more monitors!!! Yeah baby, this bugger is 4 monitor capable and still only using 1 IRQ.

by far the best video card for dual monitor support is the matrox g400 series. I have the g450 32 meg and love it. windows xp supports dual monitors but only the professional version.

I agree, the Matrox cards are well known for great 2D quality and dual monitor support, I'd really look at their cards for business/dual-head setups.

bpal: By the way, welcome to the PC Mech forums!

Matrox is the leader for 'consumer level' dual monitor cards -- but ATI is darn close behind and catching. But for real dual/quad monitor setups, Appian blows them all away. The Jeronimo Pro I've ordered is just awesome -- OpenGL, DirectX, Real-Time video in/out (RCA connectors), protrait display capabilities, and the abilitity to configure four monitors (two rows of two) as one huge display. There's not a dual/quad monitor card that can touch this beast. Of course at $800.00, that better be the case.

Sorry I was just assuming that he was talking about consumer level dual monitor cards. As far as more expensive cards go I have no idea. I don't have the cash for them so I don't even begin to consider
