DVD Playing error

Hey folks

Just reinstalled XP on a HP Pavilion 760n using the recovery CD and now trying to play the DVD and got error "Decoder Error The video decoder has either malfunctioned or is not installed. Please restart Media Center and/or the computer.

I download a free decoder that comes with AVSDVDPlayer but still got the same error. Not sure if the PC owner wants to purchase a decoder or even if that will solve the problem.

I thought that Recovery CD came with a decoder software but what do I know?

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

Ok I cannot get the audio to play through the DVD. It is connected to the motherboard from the DVD player but still no sound just the movie.

I am using Media Center to test the DVD.

In Windows Media Player it just sits there and won't play even after selecting the tracks.

There are no conflicts in DM. All Audio Codes etc looks good.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

I've never played with Media Center, but see if something below may help:

installed the mpeg-2 decoder from
http://www.deskshare.com/Resources/a...dmc_DVRMS.aspx

It fixed the problem with both Media Center and WMP

Thanks you so very much!
