Support for IDE drives on P5K motherboard?
I just got my new system and it's working great so far, though I'm having a problem getting the P5K's BIOS to recognize a 200 GB Seagate IDE HD I swapped out of my old Dell (used only for music backup).
I know the power cable I plugged into the drive from the motherboard is working because I tested it on an IDE CD-RW drive (which also isn't recognized by the BIOS, although it will open/close by pushing the eject button on the front). I used the 80 pin IDE cable that came with the P5K, with the blue end plugged into the board, and the black end into the drive (jumper set to CS). In the BIOS menu under "main", SATA 1 and SATA 2 are occupied by the main hard drive and DVD-RW respectively, but SATA 3 and 4 display "Not Detected". Win XP also does not show the drive under My Computer. Anybody know which BIOS settings I need to tinker with to get it to work? I bought a USB enclosure for it just in case it won't, but I'd like to be able to use these IDE drives if possible. |

Manual section 4.4.5 - JMicron enabled, mode IDE.
During POST, press Ctrl+J and see if the JMB363 BIOS comes up. I don't know if it will with the JMB set to IDE but if it does, see if the hard drive is seen in there as a non-RAID device. Manual section 5.4.2. |
