CPU cooler For XP3200

I have a Ga-7vt600P-rz Mother board and a AMD xp3200 cpu. The original cpu cooler ran hot and the fan is making noise.
I bought a cool master Huge heat sink and huge fan. This won't let the computer boot and it goes into thermal protect.
I think the bottom of the heat sink is too think and doesn't allow heat to the fins fast enough.

I'm looking for suggestions on what model I should get to protect my CPU.
I looked up the valman universal cooler but it shows needing 4 holes in the mother board , NOT an option.
Thanks
Allan

Make sure that the heatsink is installed on the CPU properly...it must sit flat and level on the CPU so it can make full contact with the mating surface. And make sure it's not touching anything but the top of the CPU...if it's touching a capacitor or anything else it won't sit properly on the CPU.

And make sure you didn't apply too much thermal compound between the CPU and heatsink...too much compound actually prevents heat from reaching the heatsink.

Thanks
I have checked and double checked , I mounted it properly. The only difference between the cool master and any other heat sink that runs hot but works is the thickness of the bottom of the heat sink where it makes contact with the die.
Still looking for a recommendation for a new heat sink and fan.

Which exact Cool Master or Cooler Master model of heatsink did you get for your socket A motherboard. There is no such thing as a too thick of a heatsink, there is too wide, too tall.

Model (CP5-8JD1F-0L) has a copper core . The cooler worked fine on a older board with a 1.2 Athlon. But the pc won't boot with this cool master. I have 3 heat sinks here all work but run too hot. The pc will go into thermal protect when playing a Game. The cool master will lock up the pc just after the windows start up screen.
The cool master is the exact same size heat sink as one of my others , It has thinner fins and a close to double thickness base compared to my other heat sinks.

I'm not an amature pc builder I have built 4 from scratch now, First time I've had problems with cooling.
