Monitor Resolution Issue

I have a Dell Inspiron 1500 with a mobility radeon 7500 graphics card, 1024x768 res. I need to connect to a separate monitor with 1680x1050 resolution, but my computer doesn't seem to offer any widescreen resolution at all. Any 16:10 ratio would satify me. Help! Do I need a new driver, or is there some software to fix this?... Throw me a frickin bone.

About the best you can hope for is download the latest driver from Dell and install the .inf file for the monitor.

That's a good suggestion, and I tried that to no avail. The problem almost seems simpler than that. In my display window for my laptop it gives the option for 800 and 1024 resolutions. My second monitor includes options for 1280 and 1600. The question is, how do I select a widescreen resolution when they are apparently unavailable in the menu. There must be some way around this.

So you see two monitors in the display properties?
