Choosing a scanner with automatic document feeding
Hello!
I am looking for a scanner with an automatic document feeder. It needs to be able to automatically feed 8.5 x 11 pieces of paper that are *slightly* thinner than normal thickness photocopy/inkjet paper? The most important part is that the feeder works well with few paper jams and is reasonably fast. It would also be nice if the scanner were also flatbed, such that I could scan books, etc, on the flatbed in addition to having the automatic document feeder. One more question, if anyone has the time: Is a dpi of 600 to 1200 dpi considered high for a scanner? I was looking at the Epson GT-2500, which looks very good in terms of the text and graphics capabilities that I will be using the most. It has a price of around $599. But then I looked at other Epson scanners. The Epson Perfection 4490 OFFICE is only $349, and yet it has a higher dpi rating of 4800 dpi. It has a slightly smaller capacity automatic document feeder than the GT-2500, but still, I would not expect four times the dpi for that price. What do you think? Thanks so much for all your help! Have a great day,Andy |

Most document scanners allow you to scan bypassing the document feeder.
600DPI is fine if you are scanning documents which you are most of the time with a document feeder. We have a couple of Fujitsu fi-5015c at work. They are quite fast.
