DVD Rom Drive not showing anywhere.

So recently i built my own computer and everything has been good from since i got it working to now. However, yesterday the DVD Rom drive decided, well, not to recognise.

I noticed it when i tried to install Battlefield 1942 for old times sake, when it wouldn't run it. I tried My Computer and the DVD Drive wasn't there.

I looked in the BIOS and the DVD drive had disappeared from there too, Device manager, nothing about a DVD Drive there. In fact its disappeared.

From then on out I've been scowering the web for answers all of which have put up a miss.

I tried checking the cables, 4 times. Reconnecting, unconnecting etc with no such luck.

I tried unplugging it, starting up, shutting down, then replugging it in so that it would automatically recognise it, no, still stayed at nothing.

I tried downloading drivers from the website, when i installed them it said it couldn't detect the DVD device and so couldn't install. Great.

So then i tried another DVD device, i have an old ish dell, so i hooked the DVD Drive upto that with the wires and power and that failed to recognise.

Power is going fine through to the device as I can open up the drive with no problems it just appears that windows/bios is refusing to acknowledge its there.

Any help would be appreaciated, possibly the wires? or the motherboard connection I thought. Thanks.

If a new IDE cable won't do the job ( and that drive works in the another computer) then the motherboard's IDE connector is shot.
RMA the board for replacement.

Is there another drive on the same ribbon cable? If so, did the DVD quit about the same time you added the other drive?

No, theres just one drive on there, i've tried back tracking everything i've done, but well, i didnt really do anything from when it was working to not working.

I tried different drives to test it out and they both failed. So, its not the drive.

Did you set the jumpers on the drive to master no slave or cable select (CS)?

My mum had an old ish computer, and the DVD Drive died so they bought a new one, they where throwing it out so i took the DVD Drive from there, it was already set as slave becuase the hard drive was set as master i should think. Thing is though, if it is that, the DVD drive was working meerly 3 days ago.

If that drive is set to slave it may not be recognized. According to your post the drive is now on an ide channel as the only drive. That would require that it be set to master with no slave or cable select with the appropriate cable.
