CPU temps too high?
Hi, I recently just built a new rig and was wondering about my temps on my E6850. It's not overclocked it's at its normal speed, 3GHZ. The temps in the bios start out at 33C when I turn the computer on but I could literally sit in the bios and watch it climb to 52C. I downloaded speedfan just to see if this was right and just sitting in speedfan and watching the temps they still seem too high. The temps are 44C for temp 1, I think thats the cpu temp, 30C for Temp 2, I'm not sure what that is, Temp 3 measures at -2C, I don't think this matters since it's low, and then it says core 0 at 23C and core 1 at 25C, again I don't know what these are. Those are just the temps at idle.
I then downloaded a program and open a few folders then looked at the cpu temps and they went from 44C for temp one to 54C and the cores raised to about 40 something each. I wanted to know if these temps are normal for the E6850 or are they too high. I haven't even run any games or anything yet so I want to know if these are ok before I do. Also, I'd like to know what the temps 2,3,core 0,and core 1 are for. By the way I'm using the stock intel heatsink that came with the E6850. |

Hard to say which reading is but a Core temp should be the temp of each core. There may be a third temp that is for the junction between to cores. The "temp" label could be the motherboard and/or the chipset temps. If the BIOS lists all those different temps, check the motherboard manual to see what it says it is monitoring. As for temps for a C2D CPU: 25 to 40c would be idle to low use/40-50 some apps running/ 50 to 65 heavy use/above 65c danger zone.

Unfortunately my motherboard manaul says nothing about what the temps should be. And in the bios it only tells the temps for the cpu and case temp. Maybe I should just get a new heatsink.

What kind of motherboard do you have?
You should download CoreTemp to check temperatures. I know the ASUS motherboards over-state the temperatures of the new C2D processors; they average 3 numbers, Core0, Core1 and TJunction. TJunction always reads 85C, and is simply the CPU telling you at what remperature it will shut down to prevent damage. At idle, the C2Ds should be in the 30s (lower is fine). At full load, high 40s is ok.

I have a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R and in the bios at idle I could literally sit and watch the temps rise to over 50C. In speedfan though the main temp is at 44C when I just sit and watch it and core 0 is like 28C and core 1 is 29C. So if the cpu should idle at somewhere in the 30s then your saying my temps are too high?

Those temps are fine. I'd say the danger zone for a CPU is when you get above 60-65.

Well.
I have an E6750, using speed fan i get as follows CPU: 41C HD0: 29C Core 0: 23C Core 1: 21C Just check that all the pins on the CPU fan are seated correctly as a minor lift on the CPU Fan left me at 50C Obviously you'll be slightly higher due to a higher clock rate. In reply and ignoring past posts Core 0 + 1: are the individual cores of your processor from what i gather, the CPU is the general CPU state before it hits the fan. |

Actually, Village Idiot, I get those temps too when I just sit and watch speedfan, but that is because I have this energy saving feature in the bios that reduces the voltage when not being used. I was wondering what temps you get after running system intensive applications. I looked at my temps for core 0 and 1 after running a game for a short period and I swear I saw core 0 and 1 at like 58C, but just for a breif second then they dropped drastically after I quit playing.

That's a little high (58) but nothing to worry about. If you had a cooling problem you'd see it skyrocketing beyond 60.

Under major stress
(Medal of Honor Airbourne, Max Settings, 1440 x 900 screen resolution with 100% CPU Usage on both cores) (30 minuites of this 100% on each core thing) I got CPU: 55C HD0: 27C Core0: 37C Core1: 34C That really is stressfull for my poor baby

Not sure what the 'cpu' number is, but the two core temperatures are amazing. My cpu under full load gets up around 50 on each core....(But then again it's an overclocked AMD cpu...)

How the heck can we get like 35C during load, and under 30C on idle? I'd cry and laugh if I can do that.

It's the Core2Duo. Almost as cold as my refridgerator :-)
