It isn't bad for the drive.....if you want to delete everything on the drive, then formatting is a good way to accomplish that. You'll start off with a 'clean slate' so to speak.

if you format, you will need to reinstall windows, and all the programs you want to use.

you might also have to reinstall any drivers for your hardware.

If you don't have install CDs for your programs, or you're missing some driver disks, then don't format. I was under the impression that this was a 'storage only' drive....oops. What do you mean when you say " only have llike crap on it and its completely full and i dont really need a new Hdd"

Is it full of files you're not using? (delete them!)
Have you run a spyware scan? Viruses? Adware? CCleaner (A registry cleaner)?

If you have programs you aren't using, other than Windows, uninstall them and manually delete all your "crap" stuff you have on your computer. Do a disc clean up and defrag the hard drive. That should give you a nice clean hard drive but still leave the OS intact.

If you're trying to free up hard drive disk space then you'll have to manually delete unecessary files and uninstall unecessary programs.

Have you tried CCleaner yet? It looks for and removes temps files that might be scattered all over your hard drive.

You can also reduce the size of your internet browser cache and remove all but the most recent Restore points.
