New build, no POST signals.

K, I just got all the components for a new build (a gaming computer) and got the processor and processor fan set up snugly. At first I had tried using one of my older chasses for the housing and I was reminded that the power button doesn't work on it and I had to use the reset switch as the power button (that works). Because it was just the minimum basic set up, all I wanted to do was make it so the system would alert me that it knew there was no RAM installed. I got no signal. I had assumed the alarm ringer would be behind a metal support, but there was no sound.

After fooling around with that one I decided to move everything into a different chassis, one that I had been using but something with the OS was causing it to not work as I wanted it to. So after removing the parts in that chassis and moving in the new parts I'm still getting no sound signal for lack of RAM. The speaker is in plain sight and I'm sure I have all the power plugs in the correct place and the processor fan is spinning, but I get no sound. In the past when this happens I've been told it's possibly a dead processor, but would a dead processor cause all fans to be active and turn on the "ready light"? Also, when I plug the monitor into the video port, I get nothing. Has this problem ever happened? I read the mobo book and I'm not getting the results it describes. A little help?

Do the out-of-case-troubleshooter with the motherboard out the case to be sure the core components are working okay. You may have a stray standoff shorting/grounding out the motherboard.
