Laptop Hard Drive
I recently had my laptop die on me...out of warranty, of course. After getting a new laptop, I ordered a hard drive kit from Newegg...figuring that since the laptop displayed was my old one, the hard drive looked almost exactly the same...but apparently I was wrong. The hard drive doesn't fit in the enclosure. I looked at the pins, and the enclosure had the gaps for the drive's pins (like for a regular hard drive), but the laptop hard drive's pins are altogether...never breaking to where it'd fit in the holes. I don't know what to do...maybe one of you could help? I'd appreciate it.
Information from the hard drive (digital camera's not here at the moment...): HITACHI Travelstar(tm) www.hitachigst.com Model: HTS5548060M9AT00 5400RPM 5V 1.0A DC 60GB ATA/IDE I can give more info if needed. Again, thanks. |

Many laptops use slide-on adapters to mount the drives, you probably only have to pull the adapter off.

I had thought that at first, but there's that thing with the pins. The pins just won't fit in the enclosure.

You sure you aren't trying to mount the drive upside down?
There are 2 rows of pins, there are 43 active pins, 22 in one row and 21 in the other (one in the middle is missing) with another 6 pins kinda off to the side, that's the jumper block and they do not connect to the adapter. If you look at the end of the drive, you should see all these pins, if you do not, there is an adapter on them that you have not removed. Some pull off but some have to be unscrewed. |

Your pictures are rather blurry but it looks to me like that hdd has a an adapter on it. Remove the hdd from the holder it is in (two screws on each side) and then pull the adapter from the hdd to reveal the pins on the rear. Pull it straight off to avoid bending the pins.
