Cloning HDD to different make HDD
Cloning (including Windows XP OS) Maxtor SATA to Western Digital SATA. I was going to use Maxtor Maxblast cloning software. (I used it before to clone a Maxtor drive to another Maxtor drive and it was a piece of cake). Maxtor says that Maxblast will work for cloning to most other makes. Western Digital site says this about cloning:
There are many commercially available software programs that you can use to backup your whole hard drive or only your data. These programs can usually be used to backup onto any Western Digital hard drive. However, Western Digital recommends that you check with the software vendor before buying any software, to ensure that the program will accomplish what you are trying to do. Western Digital does not endorse or support any third-party backup applications, unless they come bundled with one of our hard drives. Can I expect to run into any glitches? Will Western Digital require different drivers? I didn't find any type of Windows drivers at Western Digital website. The Western Digital HDD didn't come with any software from Newegg. |

You can download the WD cloning software. It's called Data Lifeguard Tools. Works just like Maxblast. Maxblast should work, as would Seagate Disk Wizard.
