Temps. shot up 10c on an e4300 to e6400 swap?
Ran across an e6400 for a c-note (Wasn't going to pass that up!) and after the swap, my Coretemps are running a full 10c higher (no load/45c.). The temps.(w/load) are comparable to the e4300 @ 54c. (Nice jump in performance!) Has any one seen or would you expect this?
Using the 6400 on system that I'm not going to O.C. because PSU/temp. considerations and the little e4300 on a system that allows for a lot more head room because of better quality components and full sized case and motherboard. ( Going to be nice to have both my home computers perform well!) |

I wouldn't say that is unreasonable, or any cause for alarm, but you may want to double check the heatsink connection to the motherboard. There's a tutorial in our Tips and Tricks forum. All 4 posts might not be locked in completely.

The e6400 is a more powerful chip. With more power comes a hotter running CPU. But if the CPU is running about 60 C, I'd suggest adding another exhaust fan or two, or maybe even a new heat sink.

Thanks. Running with a Zalman 7000 in an Antec Aria case,XFX 6600GTAGP video card with Zalman 700cu GPU cooler w/an Evercool slot fan along side,Asus serial ATA DVD drive,Seagate 3.0 S-ATA 160gig,1 gig DDR 400 dual Corsair Value Select and an AsROCK LGA775i65 motherboard.
This case is small... but going with serial ata has left the airflow to the 120mm PSU exhaust fan and the slot cooler, pretty much clear. (Take out the slot cooler and the thing is virtually silent!) This little budget build screams... But now my no load temps. are at 50c. and load temps. are at 58c. (Not crazy high but don't like 'em.) Going to re-seat the HSF and settle I guess. Thanks for all the help that I've received from around here (through this case's many configurations) and I'm calling it a done deal! Going to post the final picks in the custom thread Edit: Went into bios and the temps are showing 10c cooler? (With the e4300, the temps were similar to CoreTemp's) Could the swap have left an issue with CoreTemps accuracy? Last edited by bd1886; 10-22-2007 at 02:34 AM. |
