Question ASUS P5K3 to 4GB ??

Hello,

I am on the verge of a new build.

Mobo: ASUS P5K3 [LINK]
(DDR3 1333/1066/800)

Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6700 [LINK]

I would like to get 4 GB of ram.

I was thinking 2 kits of
CORSAIR 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600)

Will that make sense? (I'm not very sure about the relationship here)

I've heard things about motherboards not being as stable with all 4 chips in.

(I will be using this build for video/3D animation. and i do NOT plan to overclock.)

Thanks in avance for your help!

First, I'll suggest that you just get a MB that takes ddr2, since ddr3 still doesn't offer many advantages. And then get 2x2gb ddr2.

But if you insist on getting ddr3, then I would get a 2x2gb ddr3 800.

Thank you!

If you don't mind, could you explain the ddr3 800 vs. ddr3 1333 relationship?

The q6700 has a fsb of 1066, that means that in order to run the cpu to ram ration at 1:1, you would need ram that's 533. It's suggested that you get it one step higher, thus giving you 667.

I can't check newegg right now, but 800 usually isn't that much more and will give you head room in case you upgrade the processor to one with afsb of 1333.

Actually, the only DDR3 [2 x 2 GB] kits i have been able to find are DDR3 1600. (which my motherboard doesn't seem to be compatible with).

So is it okay to go with two kits of [2 x 1GB]? (Meaning will filling all four slots be okay?)

Also, these kits are either 1333 or 1066. which should i choose?

thank you.

If that's all that's available, I would get whatever is cheaper.

If that's getting 2 of the 2x1gb, then just know you might have to lower the speed of the ram, but that shouldn't affect performance with those speeds. Look at which one has the lower cas. That would probably be the best bet.
