Repairing ntfs.sys?

So I was browsing the internet when all of a sudden my computer freezes up. So I try all the normal fixes Ctrl Alt Del, windows key, waiting, etc. Anyways I restart the computer. Seems to be going fine until the bar loader comes up and goes on for about 3 minutes. Then it goes to the screen to select safe mode or not. I say normal and then it comes up with black screen saying that the file "ntfs.sys" is corrupt and needs to be repaired. So I throw in the Windows XP disk go to repair and alas it is command line and I do not really have too much experience in command line besides UNIX and really do not want to screw up. So I come to you guys what should be the command/s that I need to put in to repair this file correctly? Hopefully I do not lose anything...

Note...
My HD is Home edition and is labeled as C and my DVD drive is labled D.

Edit: Should I just do a repair installation of XP?

It sounds to me like your harddrive is failing, I would run diagnostics on it right away. Slave it onto another machine if you have to.

anyways to answer your question, here is how to repair ntfs.sys

Yeah I suspect that it might be dieing...I am having the worst luck with computers lately. First my videocard dies 2 months after warranty then my HD starts dieing the day I buy DVD-Rs so to backup data. Hopefully it will end up fine. Lucky it has a 5 year warranty. Thank you for the link.
