computer wont boot with RAID controller enabled

So I tried enabling my extra SATA RAID controller (silicon image) so that I could have extra SATA ports (not to be used as raid, just to be used as regular SATA ports). Trouble is, when i enable it, it goes to the point where it should come up with either the windows XP loading screen, or say "no operating system found", but it just hangs and does neither. even if i tell the bios to boot from the hard drive where the OS is located (which is NOT on the raid controller SATA ports) it won't boot. I can't seem to figure this one out for the life in me, and have read all the documentation to no avail.

Did you check the bios in a second area to select which drive gets priority? That may be what you were saying in your original post but I seem to remember two areas that need to be configured for proper booting. Plus, you'll need to instlall the drivers for the Silicone Image controller even if you don't use the RAID configuration.

you mean install these drivers in windows? i did install it in windows. if i leave drives disconnected, i can boot and then connect them and they work fine. and yeah, i configured it so it SHOULD boot from the old drive on the non-RAID controller
